SALT LAKE CITY — Charges were filed Thursday against a man who police say traveled to Idaho at least twice to pick up a teen girl and drive her back to Utah to have illegal sexual relations.

Michael George Nebeker, 24, of Cottonwood Heights, was charged in 3rd District Court with two counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, and dealing in harmful materials to a minor, both third-degree felonies; and enticing a minor, a class A misdemeanor.

In June 2019, Nebeker met a 14-year-old girl on the dating app “Plenty of Fish,” according to charging documents. He gave the girl a cellphone to communicate with her, told her he loved her and that he “wanted to marry her,” the charges state.

Nebeker sent the girl sexually explicit text messages and pictures, while acknowledging her age by messages such as “it will be four years before we are married and move in,” according to charging documents. He also picked up the girl twice and drove her to his Salt Lake County home to engage in sex, the charges state.

“Nebeker would drive to Idaho to pick her up and take her back to his residence ... then take her back to Idaho,” according to charging documents.

A $100,000 warrant was issued Thursday for his arrest.
