Letter: Recent ode to Desert Hot Springs should be required reading

A Desert Sun letter writer agrees with a recent Valley Voice column singing the praises of Desert Hot Springs, which includes such attractions as Cabot's Pueblo Museum.

Nudging us toward Desert Hot Springs

I want to thank Audrey Moe for her July 10 Your Turn column, “Plenty is happening in Desert Hot Springs.”

As new desert arrivals, my husband and I are renting in Indio but expect to purchase our own place within the year. We’ve looked at many areas, debated “country clubs” vs. neighborhoods and consulted with family, acquaintances, Realtors, etc.

When we mention we’re leaning toward Desert Hot Springs, we invoke hysteria, negativity and condescending advice. I point out we’ll be able to afford our “dream home” (new construction) without HOA fees in a diverse community, which is a priority. I’m excited by the possibility of being part of an evolving community and Moe’s article details amazing progress being made.

People should let go of their misconceptions and stereotypes of Desert Hot Springs. While we haven’t made a final decision on a home, DHS will be a top contender. I look forward to meeting and standing beside people like Moe who don’t kowtow to people that “turned away” when they heard she was from DHS.

Thank you for printing her column. I will be sharing it with those who continue to discourage us regarding our delight in discovering Desert Hot Springs.
