Berry Henson of Palm Desert is in his eighth year on the Asian Tour, but he still hopes to play the PGA Tour soon.

Berry Henson of Rancho Mirage, a former Palm Desert High School golfer in the 1990s and a regular on the Asian Tour for the last decade, was one of four golfers to qualify for the PGA Tour’s Barbasol Championship on Monday.

Henson, 40, fired an 8-under 64 at Boone Trace National Golf Club in Richmond, Ky. That was good enough to tie for second in the 68-player Monday qualifying event. The top four players advanced to the PGA Tour event, with former PGA Tour golfer Stephen Allen shooting 63 and Henson and two other golfers shooting 64.

The Barbasol Championship, played opposite the British Open on the PGA Tour schedule, will be Thursday through Sunday in Nicholasville, Ky., near Lexington.

Henson’s round Monday featured eight birdies and no bogeys. While Henson posted his score early in the day, he had to wait out a rain delay late in the day before everyone in the event finished and he clinched the PGA Tour berth.

Henson has played in two other PGA Tour events, the CIMB Classic in Malaysia in both 2014 and 2018. The tournament is co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour and the Asian Tour. On the Asian Tour, Henson won the 2011 ICTSI Philippines Open as well as the 2011 Clearwater Masters in Kuala Lumpur on the Asian Developmental Tour.
