"Bat Out of Hell," a musical based on the famed 1977 Meat Loaf album of the same name, disappeared last month from the Des Moines Performing Arts touring Broadway schedule after producers postponed a North American tour.

"Bat out of Hell" cancelled in Des Moines.

The show planned to be part of the Civic Center's "add on" package for the 2018-19 Willis Broadway Season, meaning season ticket holders could swap tickets to one of the core six Broadway performances or purchase add-on tickets to see the musical. The organization announced in March plans for the show to run Feb. 26-March 3, 2019

But, the "Bat Out of Hell" North American tour stalled in November, Playbill reported, with producers pulling the plug days before debuting in Detroit.

Performing arts venues in San Francisco, Detroit and Boston informed the public of the tour postponement. Des Moines Performing Arts emailed ticket holders a cancellation notice and refund information, scrubbing the dates from dmpa.org and forgoing a news release.

"We worked with the show’s team to reschedule the engagement, but were unable to find dates that worked for both parties,"  Des Moines Performing Arts said in an email statement.
