Get ready for an entire week of events and celebrations for all things beer in Des Moines.

Des Moines Beer Week kicks off at 4 p.m. on Friday, June 14 at El Bait Shop located at 200 SW 2nd Street in Des Moines.

Celebrating the Des Moines craft beer scene, area breweries, restaurants and bars will hold a range of special events during Des Moines Beer Week (DSMBW) from June 14-23. The beer festival was established in 2014 and occurs annually.

Celebrate Des Moines Beer Week June 14 through 20 and sip some suds from local breweries. These two hail from el Bait Shop, which is nationally recognized.

“Des Moines Beer Week has always been for anyone and everyone. As more and more breweries are opening locally, we not only aim to engage current craft beer lovers but we also hope to introduce new audiences to craft beer and the craft beer community,” said DSMBW organizer Megan Pralle. “The array of events scheduled reflects that there really is something for everyone."

June 14, 4-8 p.m.: Kick-Off Party at El Bait Shop

200 SW 2nd St., Des Moines

Des Moines Beer Week begins at the DSMBW Kick-Off Party at El Bait Shop. The event is free to attend and will be the first opportunity to try the many 2019 DSMBW Collaboration Beers — an assortment of special beers from Iowa breweries partnering with another brewery or organization of their choice to create original beers. Punch cards will be available for purchase.

The parking lot will feature dunk tanks for chances to dunk your favorite industry people and local celebrities or step up to the high striker to test your strength. Proceeds from these games will go to the Youth Emergency Services and Shelter.

June 15, 2-5 p.m.: Iowa Craft Brew Festival

E. 4th St. and E. Court Court Ave., Des Moines

Head behind Iowa Taproom for one of the flagship events of DSMBW. Organized by the Iowa Brewers Guild, the Iowa Craft Brew Festival feature over 60 Iowa breweries, along with a host of regional and national craft breweries. Participating breweries will be pouring unlimited tastes of approximately 300 beers, including a variety of limited release brews. In addition to an array of outstanding beers (and cider, mead and kombucha), the ICBF will feature food from Melts without Borders, Ceviche and Molly’s Cupcakes, among others!

General admission tickets are $30 per person and include a free glass; designated driver tickets are $5 per person. This event will sell out — no day-of tickets will be available on the day of the event. VIP tickets have sold out at this time.

June 21, 5-8 p.m.: Tapped in Tasting at Smash Park

6625 Coachlight Dr., West Des Moines

Celebrate Des Moines Beer Week by getting a taste of cold craft beers at Tapped in Tasting. Grab free samples from local brewers like Exile Brewing Co., Big Grove Brewery, Firetrucker Brewery, SingleSpeed Brewing Co., Backpocket Brewing, Confluence Brewing Company, Peace Tree Brewing Company and more. Look for food samples provided by Smash Park throughout the event.

Attendees can enter their names to win prizes from our brewers including hotel stays and brewery tours. The cost is $25 in advance or $30 at the door and comes with free entry to the silent disco at 8 p.m.

June 22, 12-5 p.m.: Beerwood Derby at Confluence Brewing Co.

1235 Thomas Beck Rd., Des Moines

Confluence Brewing Co. is hosting its 3rd annual Beerwood Derby race in its taproom. The races will take place in the packaging area this year, so there will be plenty of room for spectators. As always, Confluence will have employees with cars in the races, but they will not be eligible for prizes — just bragging rights. Races will begin at 3 p.m. in the taproom and awards will follow

Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in three categories:

  • Pro Class - Prizes will be awarded to the three fastest cars. Derby cars that have won in the past will automatically be entered into this category
  • Amateur Class - Prizes will be awarded for the three fastest cars.
  • Exhibition Class - Prizes will be awarded to the top three cars based on looks and design only.

The entry fee is $15 (including a car kit with instructions and rules) and contestants can sign up in the Confluence Brewing taproom. Car dropoff is from 12–2:30 p.m. on June 22.
