Retail giant Amazon wants to transport you to Atlantis a week early.

The digital retailer teams with online ticketing company Atom Tickets this weekend to offer an advance screening of this season’s hotly anticipated superhero film, “Aquaman.” The DC flick hits wide release Dec. 21, but Amazon Prime members can purchase tickets via Atom to a one-time screening Saturday night at participating theaters.

Jason Momoa saves another world (or two) in "Aquaman."

In the Des Moines metro, those theaters are:

  • Flix Brewhouse in Des Moines (Merle Hay Mall);
  • AMC Johnston 16 in Johnston;
  • AMC Cobblestone 9 in Urbandale;
  • and AMC Classic Southridge 12 in Des Moines.

Each show starts at 7 p.m.; the Atom website suggests purchasing tickets in advance as some theaters expect sell-out crowds. AMC Johnston and Flix Brewhouse plan to host two 7 p.m. screenings, with limited Flix tickets available and one of the Johnston screenings sold out at time of publication.

Norwalk-raised star Jason Momoa stars in "Aquaman," the latest superhero film from the DC Extended Universe (the home of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman; not to be confused with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, home of the Avengers). The film promises to serve audiences a coming-to-power story for the underwater hero DC first put to page in 1941.

"Aquaman" premieres Dec. 21, 2018.

According to IMDb, the film takes viewers to a world where “Arthur Curry learns that he is the heir to the underwater kingdom of Atlantis, and must step forward to lead his people and be a hero to the world.”

In an interview published last month by Men’s Journal, Momoa compared Curry’s fictional background to his upbringing in Warren County: “It’s probably the character I’ve played that’s most like me. Like him, I grew up a huge outsider. I was just with my mother, he was just with his father — and I know what that’s like, not having a parent around.”

Momoa debuted as Curry in 2016’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and reprised the role in 2017’s “Justice League.”
