Midwestern arena rock tribute Hairball blazed through a set last Friday at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City.

Literally.

A pyrotechnic mishap caused Hairball singer Bobby Jensen's hair to catch fire during the KISS portion of the band's set. And he kept playing.

Hairball.

"I knew right away," he told the Register. "I knew right away when the fire hit my back that I was on fire. I just knew stand there, keep playing. ... I knew if I had ran, they had to chase a guy on fire."

Tyson Events Center officials told the Sioux City Journal that there "were no bodily injuries." About 1,600 people attended the Iowa concert. Hairball's pyrotechnician was close to the stage, Jensen said.

"Everything was done right," Jensen said. "Everybody was prepared for it."

And, yes. It smelled bad.

"My guitar strap stinks," he said. "Everything that was I was wearing smells."

Jensen joined the Minnesota-based Hairball 16 years ago. He plays Bret Michaels, Alice Cooper and Steven Tyler, among others, during a given show. The band brings its one-night ode 1970s and '80s rock to about 130 stages a year.

The video brought national attention to Hairball this week, with The New York Post, Fox News and Guitar World picking up the scorching story.

"I’ve never not thought I was famous, so it’s about time the world catches up," Jensen said, laughing. "No. I’m just kidding."

Hairball returns Feb. 22 for a show at the Clay County Events Center and again March 1 for a stop at the historic Surf Ballroom.
