The Animal Rescue League of Iowa is looking for a new home for Bennie, a dog rescued last month from an owner who allegedly wrapped electrical cord around his muzzle and urinated on him.

The ARL is hosting a meet and greet for anyone interested in adopting Bennie from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at its main office at 5452 NE 22nd St. Adoption applications can be submitted there.

Bennie was rescued in January and is being cared for by the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.

A 17-year-old from Des Moines was charged with one count of neglect after Des Moines police and an ARL animal control officer rescued the young dog on Jan. 18 in the 2800 block of Boston Avenue, according a news release from the ARL.

Bennie's face was swollen to four times its normal size, his kennel was covered in feces and his water bowl was filled with blood, according to the ARL.

Bennie, who was given his new name by the ARL, also suffered hair loss and scabbing in the area where the cord was tied around his face.

Shortly after his rescue the ARL said he was "extremely sweet, loves attention, and loves treats."

Bennie was rescued in January and is being cared for by the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.

The ARL is taking donations for Bennie's care.
