A teacher at St. Edmond Catholic School in Fort Dodge resigned this week amid allegations he may have had an inappropriate relationship with a student.

St. Edmond President Mary Gibb confirmed that the employee resigned this week after authorities received an allegation of "inappropriate conduct by a school employee."

Fort Dodge Police Capt. Ryan Gruenberg said Friday that the department opened an investigation into an alleged inappropriate relationship between the teacher and a student. No charges have been filed.

Gibb said in a statement that the employee was placed on administrative leave immediately after the school learned of the alleged conduct.

"It is our understanding that the investigation is ongoing and may not be resolved for some time," Gibb said. "Matters of personnel like this are treated confidentially to protect the privacy of those involved and out of respect for the investigative process."
