A Des Moines man hit by a vehicle Wednesday night has died from his injuries, Des Moines police say.

Police responded to a report of a crash at about 9:16 p.m. in the 1800 block of Hickman Road, according to a police news release. When first-responders arrived, they found a 56-year-old man suffering numerous injuries, including serious head injuries. Friday morning, police identified the man as Randy McClain of Des Moines.

McClain was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at about 11:50 p.m.

An investigation is ongoing, but police say the fatal crash was not due to impairment, excessive speed or distracted driving, according to the release.

"All indications are that, for reasons yet to be determined, the pedestrian entered the roadway and failed to yield to motoring traffic," the news release states.

No additional information is available at this time.
