A large power outage left thousands of Des Moines MidAmerican customers without electricity Sunday.

According to an outage map, 4,468 customers were affected by the outage at noon Sunday. No other areas in Iowa were affected.

MidAmerican spokeswoman Tina Hoffman said the outage was caused by an equipment failure at the substation in the Beaverdale area. Crews were investigating the cause.

Hoffman did not have an estimated time for restoration.
