New Casey's General Store planned for Des Moines' south side

Des Moines drivers who need to satisfy their pizza hankerings could soon be stopping at a new Casey’s General Store on the city's south side.  

The Des Moines City Council approved development plans for a new store at 3200 SW Ninth St. during its meeting Monday. The Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously recommended approving the plan back in December.

It will be one of the closest Casey’s to downtown Des Moines, sitting at the corner of Southwest Ninth Street and Park Avenue. 

The gas station will be equipped with a full kitchen to serve sandwiches, bakery items and Casey’s famous pizza, said Katie Petru, the company's communications director. The store would measure 4,817 square feet and contain 14 gasoline pumps, according to documents the company filed with the city.  

The new Casey’s will give its patrons another location to use its recently launched rewards program, in which customers can earn Casey’s Cash to make purchases.

Customers earn 10 points for every $1 spent in the store or online and five points for each gallon of gas.

Casey’s is based in Ankeny and operates more than 520 stores across Iowa, including eight in Des Moines.
