A Des Moines man was arrested for attempted murder in connection with a May 6 shooting that police believe is gang-related.

Fabrece Jamar Bower Turner, 22, was arrested by Des Moines Police Thursday night on charges of attempted murder, armed with intent, conspiracy to commit forcible felony and several other charges, records show.

The incident occurred near the intersection of 13th and Clark streets and is believed to be linked with multiple other gang-related shootings that are under investigation, police said.

Des Moines Police Sgt. Paul Parizek declined to say whether the May 6 shooting was related to one on Sunday near 30th and Clark streets that left Branden Schaffer, 18, of Des Moines with a gunshot wound to the head. Schaffer — who police say was in a car with occupants exchanging gunshots with a pedestrian — remained in critical condition, Parizek said Friday. Three other men were charged Monday in connection with that shooting.

Bower Turner had been previously convicted of burglary and was wanted for failure to return to the Fort Des Moines Correctional Facility while on supervised probation in November, court records show. He was being held Friday at the Polk County Jail on $60,000 bond.
