A man is in serious condition at a local hospital after being shot multiple times Tuesday evening in Des Moines' East Village.

Des Moines Police spokesman Sgt. Paul Parizek said a call about the shooting came in around 5:50 p.m. About five minutes later, witnesses found the unidentified victim, who had been shot in the abdomen, near East Seventh Street and Court Avenue.

A Des Moines police officer investigates a shooting Nov. 27, 2018 near East Seventh Street and Court Avenue.

Blood could be seen on the north curb of Court Avenue, just east of the intersection. No weapon was recovered from the scene, but police were interviewing witnesses.

"People in the area saw a variety of things, but nothing we can verify right now as connected," Parizek said in a message.

Parizek said police will be checking for surveillance video of the area, which is near a bank and just blocks from the state capitol building.

The age of the victim, who is now at Mercy Medical Center, is unknown, although Parizek said the victim is believed to be an adult.

Tuesday evening the man underwent surgery. Parizek said Wednesday evening that he is in serious condition and not able to speak with detectives.

He said there was no solid suspect description available as of early Tuesday evening. Witnesses at the scene declined to speak with a Register reporter.
