A man was shot early Friday morning when he was confronted by a person with a shotgun on the near north side of Des Moines, authorities said.

Officers responded to the shooting about 1:35 a.m. in the 1300 block of 13th Place in the city's King Irving neighborhood, where they found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound outside.

The man told police he was walking down the street when he was confronted by someone with a shotgun. He told officers the person was angry because he was too close to his apartment building, said Sgt. Paul Parizek, a Des Moines police spokesman.

The man's injury was not life-threatening, Parizek said. He was taken to a hospital.

Officers have identified the shooter, but police could not release any information about the person as of 6:30 a.m. Friday. Detectives were investigating.
