Des Moines man arrested, bonds out after being caught with 30 grams of cocaine, handgun

A Des Moines man has been arrested and released after being caught with more than 30 grams of cocaine and handgun, court records show.

Javier Manuel Ramirez Nieves, 35, was arrested about 6 p.m. Thursday at his home in the 4000 block of Bowdoin Street. At the time of his arrest, about 33 grams of cocaine, 1 gram of marijuana and a handgun were discovered, according to court documents.

He faces charges of possession of marijuana (serious misdemeanor), failure to affix a drug tax stamp (class D felony) and controlled substance violation (class C felony). 

Ramirez Nieves was released from Polk County Jail after posting 10 percent of his $16,000 bond the same day. No attorney was listed online for Ramirez Nieves, who is next due in court Friday morning.
