Child death at day care investigated by Johnston police, Department of Human Services

Authorities have reportedly launched an investigation into a child's death at a day care. 

The Johnston Police Department and Iowa Department of Human Services, according to a city spokeswoman, said they are looking into the death of a child who was found Friday unresponsive at an in-home day care.

The child, who has not been identified, was given medical care at the scene and was transported to a local hospital but later died.

City officials have not identified the day care provider. It is unclear if criminal charges will be filed.
