Police searching for driver who struck, seriously injured Des Moines pedestrian

Police are looking for a driver who hit and seriously injured a Des Moines man Thursday night, then fled the scene.

First responders arrived around 10 p.m. Thursday to the 1600 block of East Grand Avenue to find a 56-year-old man who had been hit by a vehicle, Des Moines police said in a news release Friday.

The man was taken to a local hospital in serious condition, authorities said.

The person who hit the man is believed to have been driving a maroon sedan, police said. The vehicle has a damaged front bumper and windshield.
