An Iowa man has been charged in the 2017 kidnapping and assault of a woman in Des Moines.

Justin Lee Jamison, 24, who is serving prison time for a different crime, was charged Thursday with first-degree kidnapping and third-degree sexual abuse after he allegedly took a woman to a cemetery and tied her up in his car before assaulting her numerous times, according to court records.

Police said Jamison, of Boone, picked up the woman one evening in January of 2017 after she agreed to accompany him to his house, according to court documents. He then stopped his car at Glendale Cemetery on University Avenue and wrapped duct tape around her hands, ankles and mouth.

Jamison drove around the cemetery before stopping again to untie the women's ankles, police said. He then raped her, threatening to cut her if she didn't obey him.

He began driving around again before stopping to remove the duct tape from her mouth and sexually assault her again. Authorities later found duct tape with hair stuck to it in Jamison's car.

Jamison was sentenced in June of 2017 to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to one count of first-degree theft and three counts of third-degree burglary after robbing a Price Chopper gas station on Merle Hay Road at gunpoint in January of 2017, a few days after the alleged kidnapping and rape.

An attorney for Jamison could not immediately be reached Friday afternoon.
