Police: Burlington man used deceit to enter home before physically, sexually assaulting woman

Burlington police arrested a man accused of sexually assaulting a woman at gunpoint after using deceit to enter her home, according to a news release. 

Steven Andrew Mauck, 37, of Burlington, is charged with second-degree sexual abuse — a class "B" felony — after a woman reported a man physically and sexually assaulted her at gunpoint in her home on North Eighth Street. 

Police arrested Mauck Thursday at about 3:37 p.m. 

A Burlington baking company connected the arrest to an earlier Facebook post about a man who raped the owner.

The post alleges the owner was violently raped at gunpoint in her home Tuesday. The assailant pretended to pay for a cookie order, according to the post. 

The company reposted the police report of Mauck's arrest on their Facebook, stating, "They got him. It’s going to be a long road of recovery but now [the owner will] be able to sleep knowing he can’t hurt her anymore."

Mauck faced charges of sexual abuse and domestic abuse in 2017 which were dropped when the victim and sole witness no longer wished to testify.
