Des Moines police responded to a call of a shooting on the 11th block of 17th Street on Saturday, May 23, 2020, in Des Moines.

Police say a teenager was shot in the neck Saturday afternoon before showing up to a house in Des Moines’ west side neighborhood near Good Park.

Police responded to a report of a shooting right before 3 p.m. in the 1100 block of 17th Street. Crime scene investigators arrived at the scene shortly after.

The teen suffered a gunshot wound to the neck and was transported to a local hospital where his condition was critical, police said.

“People inside the residence are telling us that the victim showed up at the house with a (gunshot wound) to the neck,” said spokesman for the Des Moines Police Department Sgt. Paul Parizek.

“Nobody at the park or in the neighborhood heard gunfire or saw anything.”

Parizek added there’s conflicting information on where exactly the teen was shot. Investigators do not know if he knew the residents at the house.

Further details are unavailable at this time.
