Iowa State punter Corey Dunn suffered an injury that could cost him the entire 2019 season.

The Iowa State football team will likely need a new punter in 2019.

Corey Dunn, a redshirt junior punter for the Cyclones, suffered a torn Achilles tendon and could miss all of the season.

CycloneFanatic first reported the news. Iowa State football coach Matt Campbell confirmed the news to the Register through a text Tuesday night.

“Most likely out for the season,” Campbell wrote. “Good kid and total fluke deal.”

It’s a tough blow for Dunn, who was coming off an up-and-down first season with Iowa State, but had high expectations heading into this season.

Dunn, a native of Australia, averaged 40.2 yards per punt in 53 attempts in 2018. He tallied 23 punts down inside the 20 and 10-yarders — overcoming some big early season struggles including Iowa State’s first game against Iowa.

Dunn, a transfer from City College of San Francisco, redshirted during the 2017 season.
