Introducing the Register's 2019 All-Iowa softball team

After another entertaining summer of softball, the Register's 2019 All-Iowa softball team is here. It consists of one all-class Elite Team, a first team for each class and then 15 honorable mentions.

The All-Iowa softball team will be honored at next June's Des Moines Register Sports Awards. All honorees are invited to the event free of charge.

Elite Team

Lindsey Culver

Infielder | Senior | Cedar Rapids Jefferson

A back-to-back Elite Team selection, Culver led Class 5A with 61 RBIs in addition to her 12 home runs, 14 doubles and seven triples. She hit .488, slugged 1.008 and struck out only four times in 41 games.

Carli Spelhaug

Infielder | Senior | Pleasant Valley

Spelhaug's .508 batting average was good for second-best in 5A, and she had seven home runs, 12 doubles and 42 RBIs. She added 20 stolen bases on 22 attempts, too.

Jasmine Rumley

Infielder | Junior | Ankeny

One of the state's best all-around athletes, Rumley hit .493 and stole 39 bases for the Hawks this summer. She also had 10 home runs, 14 doubles, two triples and 36 RBIs.

Taylor Hogan

Infielder | Senior | Columbus Catholic

In addition to her stellar play in the field, Hogan hit .593 — good for sixth-best in the state — and stole 54 bases on 55 attempts. She also logged 70 hits, including three home runs and 13 doubles.

Alex Honnold

Outfielder | Junior | West Des Moines Valley

Honnold led the Tigers to the 5A state championship, hitting .504 and slugging .880 along the way. She wound up with eight home runs, 13 doubles, five triples, 33 RBIs and zero strikeouts.

Delaney Taylor

Outfielder | Senior | Waukee

Taylor led 5A with her 73 hits — including three home runs, 16 doubles and two triples. She hit .474 with a .538 on-base percentage, and she stole 30 bases on 32 attempts.

Makaylin Powers

Outfielder | Senior | Burlington

Powers finished her season hitting .472 with an .819 slugging percentage and a .550 on-base percentage. She logged 14 doubles, 10 home runs and 47 RBIs.

Sophie Maras

Catcher | Senior | Johnston

Beyond her solid defense, Maras filled just about every stat for the Dragons. She hit .481 and slugged .933 with 10 home runs, 15 doubles, eight triples and 49 RBIs. 

Kaylin Kinney

Pitcher | Junior | Cedar Rapids Kennedy

On the mound, Kinney led 5A with a 0.39 ERA — just seven earned runs in 126 innings pitched. She finished with a spotless 20-0 record and allowed a .101 opponent batting average. At the plate, she hit .500 with 14 home runs and 34 RBIs.
