Twins arraigned in shooting -- on their birthday -- at Detroit coney shop

Detroit — Two Detroit brothers, twins age 61, face felony charges in a coney shop shooting on Detroit's west side that took place on their birthday and was motivated, authorities say, by the lack of fried mushrooms. 

Dwight and Duane Samuels were both given bond of $200,000 Sunday at their arraignments at 34th District Court in Romulus, which handles weekend arraignments for all of Wayne County.

At about 2 a.m. Wednesday at Nicky D's coney shop on the 15700 block of West Seven Mile, a 40-year-old man was beaten with a pipe and shot on the face, police said. The attack that was caught on camera.

Police say the men, who had turned 61 just hours earlier, had been told that the restaurant did not sell fried mushrooms. One of them had been carrying a metal pipe; the other, a gun, authorities said. Both allegedly used their weapons to maim the victim before fleeing.

The men face an identical slate of eight charges: assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, firearm possession by a felon, carrying a concealed weapon and four counts of felony firearm.
