Arrest made after 3 slain at coney shop on Detroit's west side

Detroit — Police arrested a suspect in a quadruple shooting Sunday night that left three people dead inside a coney restaurant on Detroit's west side following what the police chief called "phenomenal work" by investigators and tips.

The shooting took place about 11 p.m. at the eatery on the 9100 block of Dexter at Joy Road.

The Detroit Police Department said four males were struck. Three, identified as ages 34, 24 and 20, were pronounced dead, police Chief James Craig told reporters during a press conference Monday. The fourth victim, a 28-year-old man, was hospitalized in critical condition, he said.

Following tips and "phenomenal work" from investigators, a 25-year-old suspect was arrested early Monday in the 200 block of Tennyson, Craig said. "This is just an example that when the community gets involved anonymously, we can quickly identify and apprehend a violent perpetrator."

Meanwhile, authorities are seeking a 23-year-old woman who was seen driving from the shooting scene with the man in a white pickup truck, Craig told reporters. "At this point, she is not a suspect. We just need to have a conversation with her."

The motive in the shooting was unclear, the chief said. Investigators believe the suspect, who has an extensive criminal history and was on parole, briefly spoke with one of the victims before opening fire, Craig said.

"We just don’t know why," he said. "Another senseless shooting."

The quadruple shooting wrapped up a violent weekend in Detroit. The night before, seven people were shot in separate incidents, and one of them died.
