There is a risk of a showers in the northwest but most of the UK will enjoy a respite from the winter gloom.

Temperatures will lift a few degrees above average for the time of year from Tuesday and the balmy feel will be maintained through to the weekend.

It will be mild from Tuesday with brighter spells for much of Wales, the West Midlands and southern England although any sunshine may be quite hazy.

However, it may be cloudier in the north with occasional showers that will ease as they edge south. Continuing to be unseasonably mild from midweek in most places.

Central and southern England could see a temporary dip in 'feels-like' temperatures on Thursday afternoon, but it won’t last long with less-chilly air returning.

It may become cloudy and windy, with some rain in the north and west, before clearing by Friday.

Sunny periods are possible  elsewhere, but there is the chance of early frosts because of clear skies overnight. A spokesperson for  The Weather Channel  said: “It looks like temperatures are generally staying on the warmer side of normal for the next few weeks but there is the risk of a brief colder dip around February 18.
