Exeter is the English city most likely to have a White Christmas, according to the latest odds from a leading bookmaker.

Coral has slashed the odds on the UK having a White Christmas - and they say Devon is the part of England most likely to see snow. The Bookmaker has said that the chances of snow on Christmas Day have improved, with temperatures taking a dive this week - and they published a list of odds for a white Christmas in various UK cities.

Unfortunately, Exeter wasn't on that list - so we contacted Coral to find out what the odds were for a White Christmas in the city. And the odds we were quoted are incredible. They show that Exeter is the city in England most likely to get a White Christmas - with Plymouth and Torquay not far behind.

And, in terms of the entire UK, Coral's odds have only the snowy Scottish cities of Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow more likely to enjoy a White Christmas than Exeter.

Alex from Coral quoted us the following odds for snow in Devon and Cornwall:

  • Exeter - 9/2
  • Plymouth - 5/1
  • Torquay - 5/1
  • Cornwall - 11/2

When placed into a 'league table' snow odds, Exeter comes in at fourth - the highest ranked city in England. Plymouth and Torquay come in joint 5th with Newcastle - with Cornwall a very respectable 6th.

  1. Aberdeen 3/1
  2. Edinburgh 4/1
  3. Glasgow 4/1
  4. Exeter - 9/2
  5. Plymouth - 5/1
    Torquay - 5/1

    Newcastle - 5/1
  6. Cornwall - 11/2
  7. Belfast - 6/1
  8. Dublin -7/1
    Leeds 7/1
    Liverpool 7/1
    Manchester 7/1
  9. Birmingham 8/1
    London 8/1
    Nottingham 8/1
  10. Bristol 9/1
    Cardiff 9/1
  11. Norwich 10/1

According to the Met office for it to be considered a white Christmas there needs to be at least one snow flake observed falling in the 24 hours of Christmas Day at a specified location.

The Met Office is not currently forecasting snow on Christmas Day, but it's long range UK forecast says : "The north and west is likely to stay rather wet and windy on Christmas Eve, with the rest of the UK looking drier. For Christmas Day itself, it may be drier, brighter and colder for most, followed by some rain later. "
