Fire crews were called to a blaze after smoke was seen coming from the roof of a study centre at Exeter University.

Fire HQ had calls from the public after the fire started on the Streatham Campus in Prince of Wales Road at 6.25pm last night.

They used Breathing Apparatus and hose reel jets to successfully put out the fire.

The cause is believed to have been accidental.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue said they were called to the study centre at 6.25pm on Wednesday (May 27): "Fire Control received calls reporting smoke coming from the roof void of a building at the above location yesterday evening.

"Fire appliances from Danes Castle, Middlemoor and Topsham were quickly mobilised and soon arrived on scene.

"The building, used as a study centre, measured 20m x 10m. Fire crews confirmed a small fire in the roof space involving an electric fan transformer, crews got to work using 2 x breathing apparatus, 1 x hose reel jet, 1 x thermal image camera and 1 x positive pressure ventilator and were able to successfully extinguish the fire. 

"The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental."
