Firefighters are battling a barn fire tonight involving 70 tonnes of straw.

Devon & Somerset Fire Service arrived at the scene in Chitterly just after 8pm.

Two fire engines from Tiverton, the water bowser from Danes Castle in Exeter and the incident support unit from Bovey Tracey were called in.

The barn also contains a tractor and other farming equipment.

Crews got to work with two hose reel jets, a safety jet, and a portable dam. The incident is ongoing.

Fire control said the incident has been scaled down of 9.12pm for “watch and briefing.”

The building was 15m by 25m.

The fire service say the fire is “surrounded and contained.”
