Two award-winning businesses have combined forces to offer a unique food and drink experience of beers brewed on site and street food served from a renowned local seller.

La Cantina Street Kitchen, famous for bringing their street food van to Exmouth, Cranbrook, Exeter and Exminster, and Halons Brewery have teamed up to bring a new lease of life to the Beer Factory and Kitchen.

Located at the home of Hanlons in Half Moon Village on the A377, its official opening took place last night and it has already gone down a storm with those looking to enjoy quality locally sourced food and drink in a unique setting.

It is another major milestone in the history of family business Hanlon’s, and a step-up from when it opened Halons Bar on the site in 2015.

It is an even bigger change for the duo behind La Cantina because it means serving food in one location, rather than being a mobile kitchen.

Sam Taylor, co-owner of Beer Factory and Kitchen at Halons, said: “Tim from La Cantina came and did some pop-up restaurants here at the brewery and we worked really well together. Everyone knows that Tim does amazing food and we have got great award-winning beers, so we decided the two would work really well together.

“We are offering a great experience for food and drink dining within the Half Moon village in Exeter. People can come here and have some great food and some great drink and see the brewers working on the brewery floor where Hanlons great drink is produced. It was really important to us for people to be able to see where the drinks are produced.”

Following the official opening last night, among the other things to look forward to is brewery tours each week with “flights of beer and matching burger sides”.

Sam said: “The reception so far has been amazing. Everybody has loved this cosy, warm cool atmosphere that we have going on and really enjoyed the food and what we have to offer

“We have also really enjoyed it. Tim stopped his van last week as he wanted to ensure his customers could still get the same great food but in this kind of setting.

“Tim has an absolutely amazing following and he has had customers come over here to try it. It was really important to him to make sure we got this right and that we had great service, great food and great drinks - all using local producers.

“The burgers and steaks are from the Powderham estate, our drinks are, of course, real ales such as Yellow Hammer, Stormstay, and Firefly. We have also done something different because we have kegged a Citra IPA which you can’t get anywhere else so it’s exclusive to this bar.

“We have also got things like Sandford Orchards cider which is produced just down the road. Got Quicke’s cheese which is about two minutes away and have some great local gins on offer, as well as some local lager and soft drinks.

“Customers are just so pleased they can now also come here more often.”
