If you're travelling between Plymouth and Exeter on the A38 tonight, you'll be hitting heavy traffic.

That's because police are assisting with a slow moving convoy transporting an 'abnormal load' and a rolling roadblock is in place.

It is travelling along the A38 until it joins the M5.

The convoy left Drakelands Mine at around 6.30pm, joining the A38 at Deep Lane.

Alliance RPT, the Twitter account for the county's traffic police team, said there are three 'particularly large loads' involved.

They include huge Caterpillar tipper vehicles.

Police will escort the convoy to the M5, and from there they are thought to continue unassisted until they reach the Avon and Somerset policing area north of Tiverton.
