A crash involving two cars has left a major Devon road blocked.

Police were called to reports of a collision on the A38 at Chudleigh at 9.45am.

Officers shared the below picture of the scene on Twitter, showing the damage to one of the cars involved.

In the Tweet they say "minor injuries" were caused during the crash, but its not known how many people were involved.

As the picture shows, sand has been placed on the carriageway to absorb fluid from the vehicle.

The state of the other vehicle is not yet known.

Police say the A38 Eastbound is blocked with queueing traffic stationary due to the crash.

There is heavy congestion between the B3344 (Chudleigh / Kingsteignton Turn Off) and the A38 near the racecourse junction.

Officers advised that motorists avoid the area "for an hour or so".

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “The log is closed and it’s all clear. We’ve left the scene.”

Police statement

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said they were called to the scene at Harcombe Bend at 9.30am.

The spokesman said: “The crash involved just one car - a 2007 blue BMW.

“All the occupants were out of the car on arrival. They were believed to be in shock.

“The road was completely blocked initially with one lane cleared by 10am.

“An ambulance and two fire engines attended, but the ambulance was not required as the injuries were only superficial.”

Police have advised motorists to avoid the area due long tailbacks.

This picture was sent in by someone stuck in the traffic and shows cars queuing right up the hill.
