The Devon coast is getting a bashing with roads closed and the rail line affected as the 17-hour extreme weather warning began to hit on Tuesday afternoon.

Our video shows the waves battering Dawlish as the Met Office's yellow weather warning for rain came into force with winds up to 65mph expected.

In Torquay the seafront is currently closed due to bad weather conditions bringing water over the sea wall. The A379 Torbay Road was closed in both directions at just after 2pm due to poor weather conditions between A3022 Torbay Road and Belgrave Road.

Seven flood alerts and two more severe flood warnings have been issued for Devon, Cornwall and the South West after torrential rain left rivers at risk of breaching their banks.

Weather conditions could also see flooding along the sea coast where three-metre waves are being driven onto coastal defences by force seven winds.

The wild winter weather is likely to cause disruption on the M5, A30, A38 and other routes, and we'll be keeping you up to date with the latest news from the region's roads.

And, with electricity cables expected to fall, power cuts are likely - and we'll be monitoring the situation with Western Power Distribution.

Scroll down for the latest updates as we get them.
