A man, dressed as a devil has been running around Exeter City Centre handing out roses to complete strangers for Valentine's Day.

Samuel Whittington, 22, from Marldon said he handed out roses to people because he wanted to make them feel happy and put a smile on their faces.

The video editor travelled to Exeter City Centre on Sunday, dressed as a devil where he handed out 80 roses to random people in the street.

"I believe that everyone should be happy for Valentine's Day," he said.

"I gave out roses to men, women, single people, people in a relationship.  It didn't matter who I gave them to I just wanted to put a smile on their face."

The 22-year-old said he struggled to find that many roses on the day after going from supermarket to supermarket but he ended up 'clearing out Tescos'.

He added: "It was so nice to make people smile on the day, I gave a rose to a girl who was on the phone and she was absolutely speechless and another guy dragged me into his shop to give someone a rose.  It just felt really wholesome."

In 2018, Samuel travelled to Plymouth painted red to hand out roses in the city centre and the year before that he went to Newton Abbot.

Samuel also admitted that last February he didn't have a Valentine so he wanted to create a 'Valentine's experience' for other people. However this year he won't be spending February 14 alone.

He said: "In May last year I met my girlfriend.  It was so nice to meet someone who matches my personality so well.  This Valentine's I will surprise her and we will go and do something together."

Samuel said he is inspired by Youtube Content Creator, Casey Neistat, which prompted him to make his own videos.

He added: "I see the reactions of people in his video, happy and smiling.

"It gives me this feeling of euphoria, adrenaline and pure happiness, all of which spurs me on to make videos like this, so that i can see people smiling like they do in his videos.

"It doesn’t bother me that I get nothing back - this is just selflessness from me to others."
