Police cars and fire engines are in Exeter High Street this lunchtime.

Multiple vehicles were spotted parked outside Marks and Spencer shortly after noon on Thursday.

Police officers were seen going in and out of Burger King on the High Street.

Devon & Somerset Fire Service says it was called to the scene after reports of a fire in the fast food restaurant, and they are currently investigating.

The road has been blocked by the emergency vehicles and buses serving the shopping areas in the city are queueing in the street.

Updates will appear in the blog below as we get them.

Fire service: No fire found

The fire service have confirmed that no fire was found but alarms went off due to cooking fumes.

A spokesperson said: “There was a smell of smoke in top dining area which was evacuated. No fire was found - it was caused by cooking fumes.

“We have come away from it more or less. One appliance is left there but it will be heading off soon.

“We sent our usual response and used thermal imaging cameras to confirm there was no fire.”
