Police have confirmed the person who died after being a hit by a train in Exmouth yesterday was a 46-year-old man.

Emergency services were called just before 3pm on Wednesday following a casualty on the tracks near Exmouth station.

Police, paramedics and fire crews attended. A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "We received a report at 2.57pm of a casualty on the tracks near Exmouth station.

Mudbank Lane

"Sadly a person had been pronounced dead.”

Trains between Exeter and Exmouth were suspended for more than three hours following the incident at Mudbank Lane.

Replacement bus services were put on between Exeter Central and Exmouth.

The cycle path nearby was closed by police during the incident, as well as a footpath across the railway line throughout the afternoon.
