There are currently more than 800 homes in Devon without power this afternoon following a power cut.

Those affected are homes within the EX6 and surrounding areas of Exeter.

Western Power say the power cut is a "High Voltage incident" which tend to be larger in size and affect more households.

The power company has confirmed it is hoping to have power restored by 3pm today.

Western Power confirm cause of power disruption

The cause of today’s power cut in Exeter has been due to a tree that has fallen on power lines.

A spokeswoman for Western Power said: “Originally there were 820 properties affected when it was reported at 1.19 pm. By 2..30 pm we had 16 without power as it has gone back on in stages.

“The cause of the power cut was a tree which came down on our lies.”

The latest information from Western Power is 201 properties in the affected are now without power. It says the incident was reported at around 1.20pm.
