A Devon man who was branded Britain's sexiest police officer after he was flooded with filthy offers from women when he promoted in 2016 has just been given another major promotion - putting him firmly on top.

When Jim Colwell was made Devon base commander and promoted to Chief Superintendent in 2016 a Facebook post by Devon and Cornwall police attracted 785 thirsty comments.

Women were hoping to get banged up, and now the top cop has secured a powerful new position. A tweet about the promotion has already seen several comments deleted.

JoAnn Brumbaugh, for example, wrote in 2016: " I shall be traveling to Devon, I shall commit a minor crime as soon as I see this fine looking man."

Others offered to handle his swollen goods or wanted to know how to go about getting him to handcuff them, or whether it would be possible to spend a night in the cells.

Zoe Montgomery posted: "All of a sudden I'm feeling very naughty"

How Jim caused a Hot Fuss in 2016

Hundreds of comments were posted in 2016 when Jim was promoted.

Lisa Wood wrote: "Appears there might be a spike in criminal women activity in the area".

Another female fan Melanie Best commented: "Flipping eck I could well be arrested for handling his swollen goods!!!!"

Michelle Norish asked her friend Louise Metters "fancy getting arrested at the weekend with me", while Lisa Stephens retorted: "Can I join too".

Anothers who volunteered themselves to be arrested were Gemma Nicholls who wrote: "He can use his handcuffs on me any day."

Some even came up with elaborate ploys to encounter the senior officer, such as Rachel Talbot who wrote to her friend Louise Brockley: "Ok here's the plan. I'm going pretend to kidnap you and drive you all the way down here and I won't stop driving until Mr Cutie comes and arrested me."

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said they were aware of the comments on the force's Facebook page.

Anne Holder said: "I've just committed a heinous crime I need to be arrested and put in a cell with him for the night."

Hundreds more posts were removed, and the post became global news reported by media across the world - with headlines including 'Hunk and Disorderly'.

Now Chief Supt Colwell has been promoted to Assistant Chief Constable for Devon and Cornwall.

He will take up the new position in July after stiff competition, and completing a strategic command course.

Chief Constable Shaun Sawyer said: “Following a strong selection process, I’m proud to welcome Ch Supt Colwell to become assistant chief constable.

“Jim has policed across Devon, Cornwall and Plymouth throughout his career so brings exceptional experience to my command team and the wider communities of the region.”

Chief Supt Colwell tweeted: "18 years ago to the day I joined Devon and Cornwall Constabulary. Yesterday I was humbled to be offered a permanent role as an Assistant Chief Constable. My mum, if she were still with us, would have smiled about that. God bless you mum, this one’s for you."

His tweet attracted more than 130 comments.
