Paper bags, cardboard boxes and food waste are strewn around a public bin following the reopening of a KFC drive-thru in Exeter.

The rubbish pile at Rydon Lane Retail Park is spread across the pavement directly in front of Carphone Warehouse.

It is the second branch of KFC to open in the city for a Drive Thru only service, joining the branch at Marsh Barton.

Sarah Yates was out on a walk yesterday (May 25) when she came across the mess.

Sarah said: "The bins around KFC itself seemed okay but it was the one outside Curry's that was overflowing.

"If I'd had gloves and a bag I would have cleared it myself.

"There was a queue when we walked past, although not as busy as we would have expected for a Bank Holiday."

The fast food chain has released a statement on Twitter, reminding customers: "Don't be a tosser" and to use the bins provided.

It added that "Our team members are on the case carrying out regular litter picks around restaurants. So when we still see photos online of KFC litter on UK & Irish streets, we really do throw our wings up in despair."
