Enjoy a pint of Exe on the Beach at the Silverton Street Market this year.

Organisers of the festival have been helping to produce just under 4000 pints of the beer at Exe Valley Brewery. The team got stuck in emptying the mash tun on Tuesday, June 18.

Guy Sheppard from Exe Valley Brewery explained that this year’s specially made festival ale is a light golden beer with 3.9 per cent alcohol by volume, brewed with marisota malt with cluster, magnum and Idaho seven hops to give it a zing.

He said: “We have done a special beer since the festival started in the early 1990s. We have a bit of fun, and it’s nice to do a different beer each year.

“We started in 1984, and I joined them in 1991, so we’ve been here a long time. We’re now one of the oldest breweries in Devon.”

Andy Mathers, chair of the Silverton Street Market Committee added: “Things are going well, we have a really strong committee who meet throughout the year planning and preparing things ready for the big day in the summer.

“Today we’re here for the brewing of Exe on the Beach. Every year we have an official beer of the Silverton Street Market brewed by Guy Sheppard and this year it is Exe on the Beach to tie in with the beach party theme. It’s important today to have the committee here to be a part it and to show our support and to get involved in the brewing process.

“I’m looking forward to our summer beach party theme. We usually have fantastic weather, so we’re hoping for more of the same this year. We have lots of great stalls, lots of fantastic food and drink available, brilliant kids’ entertainment, live music and many great stalls up and down the street.”
