There are long delays on the M5 due to holiday traffic and a broken down vehicle.

Traffic cameras show that various areas along the M5 are heavily congested.

Inrix, traffic and travel system, reports that the M5 southbound is partially blocked and there is heavy traffic in the area due to a broken down vehicle from J21 on the A370 near Western Super Mare and to Sedgemoor Services, between J21 and J22.

There are also long delays between Bridgwater South and Bridgwater North.

Inrix reports: "Reports of M5 Southbound partially blocked, heavy traffic due to broken down vehicle from J21 A370 (Weston-super-mare) to M5 (Sedgemoor Services). Sedgemoor Services is between J21 and J22.

"Long delays due to holiday traffic on M5 Southbound from J15 M4 J20 (Almondsbury Interchange) to J21 A370 (Weston-super-mare). Travel time is 40 minutes. In patches. Motorists heading down south for the bank holiday weekend.

"Slow traffic due to holiday traffic on M5 Southbound from J21 A370 (Weston-super-mare) to J24 A38 Taunton Road (Bridgwater South). Travel time is 30 minutes. Motorists heading down south for the bank holiday weekend.

"Slow traffic due to holiday traffic on M5 Northbound between J24 A38 Taunton Road (Bridgwater South) and J23 A39 (Bridgwater North). In patches."

M5 crash

There has been a crash on the M5 which has blocked all lanes of the southbound carriageway.

Traffic and travel system, Inrix, reports that all traffic is being held and there are delays heading towards Exeter.

It has been reported that a collision has taken place between J25 A358 at Taunton and the J26 A38 at Wellington.

Highways England reports that emergency services are en route and traffic officers are on scene moving vehicles onto the hard shoulder.

It reports that there is currently 8.5 miles of traffic in the area.

Highways England reports: “There are delays of 30 mins on the #M5 southbound approaching this incident.

“About 8.5 miles of very slow traffic. Delays are increasing so please allow extra time for your journey and consider alternative routes (if possible) or delaying your journey until it has cleared.”

Inrix reports: “All traffic being temporarily held and stop-start traffic due to accident on M5 Southbound from J25 A358 (Taunton) to J26 A38 (Wellington).

“Affecting travel from Bridgewater to Exeter. All lanes are blocked.”
