An award-winning Indian restaurant in Exeter city centre has announced it will close next month.

The Curry Leaf restaurant, which has been open since 2012 will close its doors for the final time in September.

The popular restaurant, which also offers a takeaway service is located on North Street in the city centre.

Bosses have said that they will close for the final time on September 15.

The manager Sudip Thapa, who has worked at the Curry Leaf for seven years said  that 'North Street is dying for business'.

"There are lots of reasons for the closure," he said.

"There has been lots of problems with rent prices, they just keep going up and we can't afford to pay it.

"There's also the fact that we need more work done in the restaurant and in the last six months, business has been quiet."

Mr Thapa went on to explain that they find it hard to compete with the restaurants open on Queen Street.

He added: "It's really sad that we have to close because we have built up a name for ourselves in the market.  It's going to be hard to say goodbye.

"I feel like North Street is dying for business, people just don't walk through this way anymore.

"Since Snappy Snap moved and Store 21 closed, it's just not as busy as Queen Street and we can't compete with that.

"I have tried my hardest to build the business up."

In March this year, independent chicken restaurant Hen House, formerly known as Tiger Bills closed one year after opening.

The restaurant closed without warning after a 'for let' sign appeared in the window.
