A new Mediterranean restaurant is set to replace a former kebab shop in Exeter city centre.

Plans have been submitted to Exeter City Council to transform former kebab shop Orca into a tapas and Mediterranean restaurant.

Orca, in Fore Street, closed its doors for good in the summer of 2018 and has remained empty ever since.

The new addition to the city centre is being opened by Aldric Garcia and if plans are approved will be called Tapitapa.

The restaurant will seat up to 30 people inside and will also offer a takeaway service.

Mr Garcia, who has worked in restaurants overseas and is a former employee of the Mecure Hotel in Exeter said he has always dreamed of opening his own restaurant.

"I have worked in Barcelona and I used to work in a hotel, but one thing I have always wanted was to open my own Mediterranean restaurant," he said.

"I have always been great with customers and I love speaking with people.  I have even previously won awards for being employee of the month.

"I have enjoyed by jobs in the past but I am so excited to be doing this on my own."

Tapitapa will serve a range of Mediterranean dishes as well as tapas.

The planning application also states that Mr Garcia wants to open and serve alcohol until 1am and wants to play music until 11pm.
