Organisers of Exeter's Christmas light switch-on have revealed further details about the festive event this year.

This year Exeter will celebrate the start of the Christmas season with a special five-day event series, Five Nights of Lights, which will take place across the city from November 13, and November 17.

The festive event will see the Christmas lights go live in all quarters of the city, along with street entertainment, live music and one-off events.

Funded by InExeter, both Five Nights of Lights and an ongoing programme of entertainment, illuminations and festive celebrations leading up to Christmas, will give residents and businesses an extra festive flavour this Christmas.

Ann Hunter, InExeter manager said; “This year we are proud to celebrate our city with the new Five Nights of Lights event.  This new format sees InExeter celebrate all quarters of the city and encourages people to explore and discover the different areas of Exeter. The 2019 festivities look set to bring a new Christmas experience with the city our stage.”

Here's some dates to put in your diary

Visitors to the city can also look forward to enjoying some Christmassy fun organised by sponsor, Crealy Adventure Park and Resort.

Josh Haywood, general manager at Crealy Adventure Park and Resort added: “We are delighted to be part of InExeter’s Christmas activities this year. Christmas is a very exciting time for so many and at Crealy we have an amazing, festive line up for all the family to enjoy."

The five late night shopping evenings leading up to Christmas, start on Thursday 21st November, when many of Exeter’s shops will stay open until 9pm and that date will also see Gandy Street celebrate their traditional ‘Countdown to Christmas’.

The opening date will now fall on Saturday, November 16, and will close on Thursday, December 19 2019.

The market, which attracted over 600,000 visitors last year will once again be bringing back a selection of crafts, fresh food, Bavarian-style bars and live music.

And this year Exeter Cathedral is looking for more exhibitors and traders to take part in this year’s Christmas Market.

In 2017 for the first time in the event's history, a bandstand was placed on the Cathedral Green where local bands and singers performed live on stage.

The market also had a new layout which gave more opportunities to support local businesses and performers.

The line-up hasn't yet been confirmed for this year's market although based on last year's line-up we won't be disappointed.

In 2018 visitors enjoyed the Liquorice World, the mac n cheese stall and the Christmas pudding fritter shack.
