Second Exeter nightclub wants to stay open until 4.30am

A second Exeter nightclub has applied for permission to stay open until 4.30am.

Last month, Exeter City Council’s Licensing Sub-Committee approved an application by Vaults to vary the condition of their premises licence to allow them to extend the opening hours until 4.30am every night of the week.

Now, EX4, based in Fore Street, wish to stay open until 4.30am on Thursday, Friday and Saturday’s.

At present, the nightclub is able to stay open until 1am on Monday and Tuesday, 2am on Wednesday and Sunday, and 3.30am on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

But the plans submitted to the council would see the licensable hours extended to 2.30am on Monday and Tuesday, 3am on Wednesday, and 4.30am on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Closing time would remain at 2am on Sunday.

Last entry to new patrons on Thursday, Friday and Saturday would be at 2.15am.

The application seeks to extend the licensable hours for the sale of alcohol and late night refreshments, showing of films, and the playing of recorded music and live music.

No changes are proposed to the existing hours for a performance of dance that the premises holds a licence for.

The application includes a series of mandatory conditions that EX4 would implement, including requirements on numbers of door staff on duty, keeping a record of all instances of public disorder, CCTV recordings being kept for a minimum of 14 days, and capping the number of patrons in the building at 180 in the basement, 250 on the ground floor, and 100 on the first floor.

Anyone wishing to comment on the premises licence variation must do so in writing to the city council by August 29.
