Gwyneth Paltrow has shared a lovely farewell message with her Marvel Cinematic Universe co-star Robert Downey Jr.

The actress, who plays Pepper Potts, revealed earlier this week that Avengers: Endgame will likely be her final MCU movie.

There is also heavy speculation that Endgame will be the end of Robert Downey Jr's time as Iron Man, which would conclude a memorable era.

On Instagram last night (February 20), Paltrow posted a selfie of herself with Downey Jr.

"You KNOW I will be this guy's pepper anytime he needs me ❤️," she captioned the image, also using the hashtag #pepperonyforever.

Speaking with Variety, Paltrow explained why she felt it was the right time to step away from the character.

"I mean, I'm a bit old to be in a suit and all that at this point," she said.

"I feel very lucky that I did it, because I actually got talked into it. I was friends with [Iron Man director] Jon Favreau. It was such a wonderful experience making the first Iron Man and then to watch how important it has become to fans."

However, Paltrow didn't rule out a cameo appearance in the future.

Avengers: Endgame is released in UK cinemas on April 25 and US cinemas on April 26.
