BISMARCK — A Bismarck man faces an attempted murder charge after allegedly stabbing a man because he believed the man sexually assaulted a woman.
Dalton Gene Peltier, 32, appeared Tuesday, Aug. 4, in Burleigh County District Court. Along with attempted murder, he's charged with aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon, criminal mischief and terrorizing, all felonies.
A criminal complaint details events leading up to a call to police shortly after 10 a.m. Tuesday to a home about 5 miles north of Bismarck. Law enforcement officers found a man who was stabbed in the bicep and was bleeding heavily.

Peltier told investigators he, a woman and the man were at a Bismarck bar early Tuesday morning. The relationship between the three is unclear from court documents, but Peltier said they all went back to the home.

When Peltier woke up around 9:30 a.m., he saw the woman under a blanket on the floor. He then pulled the blanket off her to find her nude from the waist down.
"Peltier also stated that it had appeared that (the woman's) underwear had been ripped off," the complaint said.
Peltier allegedly started damaging property in the home before the other man returned around 10 a.m. Peltier told police he grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed the other man in the arm once because he believed the man sexually assaulted the woman, court documents stated.
A person who performed first aid on the injured man outside the home said the woman and Peltier yelled, “You are protecting a rapist" and "I'm going to kill all of you,” the complaint said.
The person who provided first aid said he had to point a shotgun at Peltier to keep him from advancing, adding that he feared for himself and his family’s safety.
The injured man was taken to a hospital for emergency surgery, the complaint said. He has not been charged in connection to the investigation.
The woman was charged with felony terrorizing in connection with the case.
