Geese go for a swim with their goslings off the shore of Billings Park in Superior on the evening of May 12. Goslings are a light yellow color when hatched. As they mature, they become darker until they resemble the adults. Goslings attain complete adult plumage three to four months after hatching. (Jed Carlson / jcarlson@superiortelegram.com)

My sons have been getting antsy to go to the zoo recently, but of course with the pandemic, that hasn’t been possible. So every once in a while, we’ve been going for an old-fashioned car ride, like I remember doing with my folks when I was a kid. We crank up some one-hit wonders from the 1980s and head out looking for animals. Sometimes we find some; sometimes we don’t. Either way, I enjoy the time with my boys talking and singing, away from video games and cellphones. So if you have time, take a drive and see what’s out there.
