CONCORD — Firefighters from local and regional agencies have controlled three grass fires that erupted near lanes of Highway 4, authorities said.
Around 1:50 p.m. Sunday, firefighters responded to reports of flames and smoke near the eastbound Willow Pass Road on-ramp, and initially arrived to find a vegetation fire with moderate slope and spread running uphill from the on-ramp.
Soon after, firefighters found three separate spot fires south of the highway on the eastbound side of San Marco Road in Pittsburg, calling in the California Highway Patrol for help slowing nearby traffic and reaching out to the California Department of Fire and Forestry Protection for assistance, Contra Costa County Fire Prevention District Capt. Lisa Martinez said.
By 3:40 p.m., the fires were mostly under control with two spot fires limited to two acres and a third held to one acre, and some agencies were beginning to release personnel from the scenes, Martinez said.
There were no reports of injuries.
