RICHMOND — Investigators shared a video of a vehicle sought in connection with a fatal April shooting that became the city’s first homicide of the year.

RICHMOND, CA – APRIL 2: Richmond police officers investigate a car-to-car drive-by shooting where a person was killed at the corner of Cutting Boulevard and South 45th Street in Richmond, Calif., on April 2, 2020. (Ray Chavez/Bay Area News Group)

In that shooting, officers responded around 6:20 p.m. April 2 to the 4800 block of Cutting Boulevard for a ShotSpotter report. While headed there, officers learned of 911 calls about a vehicle striking a pole at South 45th Street and Cutting with a person inside suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

When officers arrived, they found a man inside a vehicle and joined paramedics and firefighters in providing life-saving measures, but the man, identified as Richmond resident Anthony Ramsey, 43, was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Thursday, police released additional details about the shooting in a statement.

“We know that Mr. Ramsey was seen exiting westbound Interstate 80 at the Cutting Blvd. exit,” police said in part. “He made a right turn in his green four-door Lexus […] and proceeded westbound on Cutting Blvd. toward his residence.”

Surveillance video obtained by investigators shows a white four-door sedan with tinted windows following Ramsey, but police said an unreleased video shows the sedan “seconds after the reported shooting” eastbound on Cutting toward Interstate 80.

Police are hoping citizens can help identify the vehicle, its license plate and anyone driving or riding. A $10,000 reward issued for information leading to a suspect’s arrest and prosecution remains in effect.
